A word about Facebook

Facebook is satan's tool, that's the bottom line. It's full of people who basically have nothing more to do than to chat with strangers who instantly become "friends" even though they've never met....

As of this writing in May 2010, Facebook boasts over 400 million active users. You normally aren't privy to any "chats" until you've made some "friends", which automatically allows you access to their profile and anything they've posted. Once you're involved in a "friend's" thread, however, you are immediately bombarded with endless emails from Facebook to let you know that someone has posted something - and, natural curiosity will cause you to click and find out the pressing questions of who, what, when, where and why. And all of this is fine - if you have nothing better to do with your life than to read inane posts....

Not to mention, this thing has invented a whole new way for people to get "rejected." If you request to be "friends" with someone and they don't like your looks or whatever, they just ignore your request. OUCH! Or, if you're "friends" for awhile, and you write something they don't like or don't agree with - BAM! They "unfriend" you. It's very impersonal but it still hurts to be rejected!

When I became involved with Facebook in early 2010, I had no clue just how much of a burden it was going to be - not only because of the lure to open the links to each thread, but because I quickly realized that most people had absolutely nothing to say!

Case in point: One popular Messianic rabbi tends to post one- or two-liners in his "What's on your mind" box, such as: "A Hebrew mindset is always looking towards the future. Leave the past in the past where it belongs." OR: "Fear. Rejection. Insecurity. All ways the enemy will use others to try to control you. Recognize them and overcome them."

Yeah, okay, nice words. But they don't contain any real "meat" such as, "For more on this comment, see the following scriptures...." Anyone can make comments like that, but it seems a rabbi would add a little more - if nothing else but to lead people toward the Word.

Anyway, it seems that none of this rabbi's nearly 1,500 "friends" seemed to notice that "their rabbi" had, in essence, said absolutely nothing. All their threads indicate they are very eager to snap up his "crumbs" - his obvious efforts to simply "show up" occasionally to grace them with his online presence - and these eager followers usually provide one-liner feedback comments that includes "intellect-free" words such as: "Halleluyah, Rabbi! I totally agree!" or "Wow, thanks!" One woman had the following comment on one of his threads: "That definitely speaks to me! It's amazing how God is using many different ways to learn this little life lesson He is teaching me right now!"

Gosh - she learned a lesson from that? I guess it doesn't take much for some people....

Much of Facebook seems to be nothing but a mutual adoration society. Reading most threads, it's clear many people are just bored and don't have much to say. It's common to see people who contribute nothing more than to thank others for commenting on their comments: "Thank you so much for your wonderful post thanking me for my posts...."

People are chatting for chatting's sake and, honestly, when it comes to the Word of God, most have nothing much to say at all! And those who do, are usually off the mark - and they will fight like cats and dogs if you try to correct them in any way.

For instance, the Messianic "movement" (much like Christianity with its endless infighting and its 33,000 denominations, etc.) contains much division about the "houses" of Israel, whether Yeshua is YHWH in the flesh or not, or exactly when we are to celebrate the Feast of Passover, etc. Everybody thinks they are an "expert" and they know all and see all and - judging by the things they espouse, most are not interested in learning or adding to their knowledge; they act as though they are knowledgeable enough and no can teach them anything. It's truly sad....

I find it very dangerous that many are blindly following these false Facebook "teachers" - many of whom are just ordinary people who have lost their jobs and have nothing more to do than to while away their time on Facebook. These "teachers" often "speak with authority", offering nothing more than personal opinion rather than scripture.

One such false teaching comes from a seemingly influential woman who hosts several blogs and openly advertises and advocates John Price's book, "The End of America", in which he asserts that America is Babylon, and warns people to move elsewhere immediately!

I was severely attacked when I suggested that the Bible nowhere even mentions America, and that this guy is grasping at straws! I mean, if you really think about it, the entire world is "Babylon"....Name one place that doesn't contain idolatry, false gods or decadence! Yes, America has its share of problems, but so does the rest of the world - especially in countries where Yahweh or Yeshua are basically ignored.

I'm floored to discover there seem to be thousands of Americans ready to flee America simply on the say-so of John Price. How sad people don't bother to read and interpret the Scriptures for themselves with the help of the Holy Spirit! Many have moved to South American countries and/or places like Costa Rica where they are supposedly "safe". South America - with its witchcraft and idols and paganism, where much of the population is Catholic! Wow. These are surely the same people who will be deceived when the Antichrist arrives on the scene!

I could go on, but surely you get the drift....

Another thing that bothers me about Facebook is that many (including supposed believers) allow themselves to become hooked on games such as "Farmville". Farmville, if you are lucky enough to be oblivious of it, is a game that allows Facebook members to "manage" a virtual farm by planting, growing and harvesting virtual crops and trees, and raising livestock. Since its launch in June 2009, FarmVille has become the most popular game application on Facebook, with over 82.4 million active users and over 23.9 million Facebook application fans in May 2010. The total FarmVille users represent over 20% of Facebook users and over 1% of the population of the world! (For more, see Wikipedia.)

The bottom line for games like "Farmville" is that it takes one's eyes off God. Some people, I've learned, spend nearly ALL their waking hours on Farmville and other games. I've personally tried, to no avail, to remind some believers whose entire Facebook entries seem to be only about Farmville, that they need to return to God. But...alas, nobody is listening.

And so I am convinced that Facebook is the tool of the devil. And so do others. Here's one comment from a lady who decided to get herself and her family completely off of Facebook:

Facebook is an absolute time waster! It is is definitely addictive - we suddenly found ourselves playing farms and zoos etc., in every free moment and when your animals die because you have neglected them you actually have feelings of guilt! Ridiculous but sadly true. Face book is very boring - let's be honest - and it opens up hurts. You get hurt when you are ignored or rejected and if you say something others don't like they attack you, even if it is just a simple misunderstanding! And as for finding friends from way back - what is the point?

YHWH commands us to concentrate on HIM and His Torah:

Deuteronomy 11: 18 Therefore, you are to store up these words of mine in your heart and in all your being; tie them on your hand as a sign; put them at the front of a headband around your forehead; 19 teach them carefully to your children, talking about them when you sit at home, when you are traveling on the road, when you lie down and when you get up; 20 and write them on the door-frames of your house and on your gates - 21 so that you and your children will live long on the land ADONAI swore to your ancestors that he would give them for as long as there is sky above the earth. 22 "For if you will take care to obey all these mitzvot I am giving you, to do them, to love ADONAI your God, to follow all his ways and to cling to him.

There is nothing wrong with having fun and playing games occasionally; but spending six to twelve hours a day playing Internet games is NOT giving your full attention to YHWH, not matter how you try to explain it away....

Judgment Day is coming soon, and the "rapture" is just around the corner. Most will NOT be part of that because Yeshua will only be "rapturing" those who are truly His - the rest, He will "spit/vomit out of" His mouth (Revelation 3:16).

Yeshua warned us to take that "narrow gate/door" that leads to life.

Matthew 7: 13. Enter by the straight door, for wide is the door and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many are they, those that go in it. 14. How narrow the door and straight the road that leads to life, and few are they, those that find it. (AENT)

"Few are they, those that find it" are those who are constantly vigilant, keeping their eyes on God and the Bible and relating current events to the prophecies outlined in the Books of Daniel and Revelation. Contrarily, those who take the "wide gate/door" will include the millions who are busy playing "Farmville" and making inane posts on Facebook.
